Stream study conducted along Shull Run near Rockland

From staff reports

Several members of the Venango County, Pennsylvania Senior Environmental Corps (VenangoPaSEC) conducted a stream study along Shull Run in southern Venango County near Rockland.

Chairman John Kolojejchick instructed the group on different kinds of streams and how to use habitat assessment forms.

In the study area, the stream was mostly rocky bottom with some small riffles and pools of shallow water. One section under a stone bridge had a larger open area of water.

The group encountered house building cattisflies, water spiders, crayfish and other macro invertebrates. Chemical tests for nitrates, phosphates, pH, and conductance were also performed.

For more information on the group’s work, call (814) 676-6435 or send an email to jkolo@comcast.net.
