United Way offers mini-grant for neighborhood gatherings

From staff reports

United Way of Venango County, along with UPMC Health Plan and UPMC Northwest, invites small community committees and/or organizations to apply for a mini-grant to hold a National Night Out event in their respective neighborhoods.

Upon approval, funds will be distributed as a reimbursement, or through a purchase order form, after the required documentation has been submitted.

National Night Out is an annual community-building program that promotes strong police-community partnerships by bringing together neighborhoods with community events held on the first Tuesday in August.

Most communities celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, or cookouts with safety demonstrations, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more.

The National Night Out Grants, unlike traditional United Way grants, are not restricted to 501(c)3 nonprofits. These grants may be applied for by individuals or small neighborhood committees looking to strengthen their communities.

Grant recipients must agree to and sign United Way’s funding agreement, which lays out the maximum approved amount and the way reimbursements will be handled. United Way encourages partnerships with agencies, local businesses and other community members.

The grant applications will be open through June 9 at unitedwayvc.org. Awards will be announced to recipients on June 23.

All events must be held Aug. 1 and within Venango County. Uniformed law enforcement and/or first responders are strongly suggested to be present during the event.

Anyone interested in helping to sponsor an event through a monetary donation should contact the United Way, or donate online via the National Night Out tab at unitedwayvc.org.
