The life of a firefighter is often fast paced and rigorous, which made the surprise the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department found after returning from handling a crash Tuesday all the more sweet.
Rocky Grove and Franklin fireman Michael Cook had returned from the crash and gone to cool off and get a cold water when he heard the sound of water coming from the bay where they keep their trucks.
When he went to see what was going on, he found his son Landon and Chief Ryan Hefferman’s son, Owen, washing the truck he just returned in.
“The boys stepped up and starting cleaning the truck on their own,” Cook said. “They didn’t ask for anything, just got what they needed and took to the task.”
Not only did the boys help the firefighters with washing the truck, they also helped an older woman who was setting up a vendors spot for the upcoming fair.
The woman told Cook that the boys had helped her bring in her wares in the heat and that it was a big help.
“All the kids in the fire department love to help out,” Hefferman said.
