An Old Fashioned Flag Day event was held earlier this month at the Clarion Veterans Memorial Park. “United We Stand” was a family-friendly event hosted by Indivisible We Rise with donations benefitting the Clarion Kindness Project. In spite of rainy weather, participants were able to gather in the gazebo to enjoy games, hotdogs and birthday cupcakes honoring the birthday of the U.S. Army. A highlight of the event was the presence of historical characters in period costumes. Betsy Ross, Col. George Barch, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Susan B. Anthony presented a short skit illustrating the history and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance. In keeping with the historical nature of the event, attendees were invited to visit the Clarion County Historical Society across from the park. For many visitors, it was a first-time look inside at one of Clarion’s hidden treasures.
