Knox parking meter removal could begin in September

Knox Borough is moving forward with a complete overhaul of its motor vehicle ordinance, which includes removing all 89 parking meters by September to avoid a costly $100,000 replacement, as the aging meters brought in under $2,000 in revenue this year. While council members are generally supportive, there are concerns about all-day parkers affecting Main Street business turnover. The borough plans to enforce a two-hour parking limit using a camera system funded by a $6,988 grant, with mailed violations and license plate readers in the works. The ordinance also updates some stop-sign intersections. Separately, new enforcement of delinquent water bills has already reduced the borough’s outstanding balance from $60,000 to $39,000.
