2 men charged for Franklin Kwik Fill theft

From staff reports

Two Franklin men are facing charges of retail theft after one of them created a diversion while the other stole items from a Kwik Fill.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint that Matthew James Kachik, 52, and Harry A. Fox Jr., 48, had both already left the Kwik Fill at 105 N. 13th Street when officers were dispatched to the location Feb. 20 for a theft report.

An employee told police that Kachik, Fox and a female had come to the store with a “vehicle problem,” and while the employee went outside to help Fox with the vehicle, Kachik and the female remained inside and stole items including batteries, car parts, candy and cigarettes totaling $577.16, the complaint said.

Surveillance footage showed Kachik at one point going behind the counter and also showed the female recording the theft on her cell phone before they all left in the vehicle together, the complaint said.

Kachik is facing felony charges of retail theft and criminal trespass, and Fox is facing a misdemeanor count of conspiracy — retail theft.
