Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Venango County

Venango County commissioners approved a proclamation Tuesday designating September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the county. Elijah Daubenspeck and Amber McMillen, who is holding a picture of their son, Alister Daubenspeck, and Michelle Bookwalter, who is holding a picture of her daughter, Jessica Bookwalter, attended Tuesday’s commissioners meeting. Alister and Jessica both died of cancer, and McMillen spoke at Tuesday’s meeting about VenanGO GOLD, a grassroots organization to raise awareness of childhood cancer that she recently started. McMillen said VenangGO GOLD has partnered this month with three local coffee shops to raise money for the Kirtland Cancer Foundation. Grandview Lookout in Oil City, Iron Furnace Coffee in Franklin and Woods and River Coffee in Oil City will participate by donating a percentage of their sales at various points this month to VenanGO GOLD.
