Area residents are invited to take part in the Seneca Rocks Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 20, helping track local bird populations as part of a nationwide conservation effort that began more than 125 years ago.
Volunteers may join a carpool team to count birds throughout the “Clarion Count Circle” — Clarion, Sligo, Shippenville, Strattanville, Knox, Callensburg and the surrounding countryside — or tally birds visiting their own backyard feeders.
No advanced bird identification skills are required, and participants may spend as much or as little time as they wish.
Those interested in joining a carpool team should contact Mal Hays, at 814-764-5645, or at malhays54@gmail.com.
To participate as a feeder counter, send an email to senecarocksaudubon@gmail.com; feeder watch coordinator Cindy Bonner will follow up with details.
Participants also are invited to a wrap-up gathering at 2 p.m. Dec. 22 at Perkins Restaurant in Clarion to share team tallies. More information is available at www.senecarocksaudubon.org or on Facebook.
