The state Department of Human Services announces applications for the 2025-26 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will open today, after a delay caused by the federal government shutdown, and will run through April 10.
To protect households during the delay, Gov. Josh Shapiro coordinated with the state Public Utility Commission and utility providers to begin the winter shutoff moratorium early, on Nov. 1, preventing service terminations while LIHEAP was unavailable.
The federally funded program helps eligible households pay heating costs by sending payments directly to their utility company or fuel provider.
Federal block grant funding for this season was released last week.
Applications for LIHEAP and other assistance programs may be submitted at dhs.pa.gov/COMPASS or by calling 866-550-4355.
