Community Playhouse returning to stage with first show in 2 years

From staff reports

Community Playhouse Inc. will present its first show in two years with “Love Letters” on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26, at the Oil City Moose Lodge on Halyday Run Road.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. both evenings. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. both nights, and an optional braised steak dinner will be served prior to the show from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. on the two evenings.

This will be the first Community Playhouse production since late February 2020 when the theater group performed its annual Honky Tonk about two weeks before the pandemic took hold.

“Love Letters”, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for drama, is a play by A.R. Gurney.

The show, which is directed by Joyce Dittman and produced by Deb Mitchell, centers on two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace, who are played played by Carol and Jeff Brown.

They sit side by side and read the notes, letters and cards that span several years discussing their hopes, dreams, disappointments, victories and defeats that have passed between them throughout their separated lives.

Anyone who wants to attend the show is asked to call (814) 493-3531 and leave a message with their name, telephone number, date attending and number of tickets needed to reserve seating.

No meal reservations will be taken after Monday and no reserved seats will be available after Wednesday. Walk-in tickets will be sold at the door both evenings until capacity has been reached.

Cost per ticket without a meal is $12, and cost with a meal is $24. A cash bar will be available.

Masks will be required.
