Core Goods’ new Farm to Neighbor Fund in Oil City saw an overwhelming response on its first day, prompting owner Ashley Sheffer to temporarily scale back and redesign the program for sustainability. The initiative, which helps residents who fall between assistance programs, allows donations to fund fresh, local food for those in need while still paying local farmers. Due to high demand, the store is currently offering limited preassembled food boxes while reevaluating operations. So far, the fund has distributed $1,319 worth of food and received nearly $2,000 in donations. Sheffer says the goal remains to feed people “really good food” and continue supporting the community responsibly.
