Coroner: Drowning cause of man’s death

From staff reports

Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh said tentative results of an autopsy on Oil City resident Michael Austin, who was found in Sage Run on Saturday morning, reveal drowning was the cause of death.

Rugh said although the final determination of manner of death will be made when Oil City police complete their investigation, it appears to be accidental.

The question of whether drugs or alcohol played any part in the death of Austin, who was 23, is pending results of toxicology testing, Rugh said.

Austin’s body was found at about 11 a.m. Saturday in Sage Run, near Pumphouse Road in Oil City, according to Oil City police.
