Coroner says 2 women died of overdoses

From staff reports

Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh said Wednesday that two local women whose bodies were found a few days apart in late July both died of drug overdoses.

Rugh said the results of toxicology testing that came back Tuesday showed that the 22-year-old Oil City woman whose body was found July 19 in the Days Inn in Oil City died of a methamphetamine overdose.

The coroner also said that the 36-year-old Franklin woman whose body was found July 23 near the railroad tracks behind Franklin Industries died of “combined drug toxicity, which was mostly methamphetamine.”

“The manner of death has not been determined yet and the cases are still under investigation,” Rugh said Wednesday. “A few more pieces of the puzzle need to be in place before I can determine the manner of death,” she added.
