Father charged after no one home to let boy into apartment

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing charges in connection with an incident in which his six-year-old son was dropped off after school and no one was home to let the boy into the apartment where he lived.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint that on Sept. 22, the young son of Jonathan Blankenship, 30, got off the school bus in Arbor Circle and went to the apartment where he lived but was unable to get in because no one was home and the door was locked.

The child began crying when Arbor Circle maintenance workers found him and unlocked the door for him and no one was home, the complaint said.

The boy was taken to the Franklin police station while police tried to locate his parents, the compliant said. Police called Blankenship four times and he answered the phone and hung up, according to the complaint.

The child’s mother, Alisha Fisher, wasn’t able to be contacted as she is a probation/parole absconder, the complaint said.

Sandycreek Elementary School confirmed the child was supposed to get off the bus at his home, according to the complaint.

Blankenship has been charged with a felony count of endangering the welfare of children and a summary count of corruption of minors.

He was arraigned Friday, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled Oct. 14 in Venango County Central Court.
