Franklin man arraigned on sexual assault charges

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly having sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl on numerous occasions.

Franklin state police said they were contacted Monday about the girl, who had left her residence in the middle of the night. Police did not indicate where the girl lives.

Police said Kyle Askins, 25, of Franklin, allegedly picked her up and took her to a residence in Oil City. Police said they learned during their investigation that Askins was involved in a relationship with the girl that was sexual in nature.

Askins had met with the girl and engaged in sexual intercourse with her on at least eight occasions, police said. The incidents dated back to last August, according to police.

Askins was placed on administrative leave from Franklin School District due to the allegations, police said.

He was arraigned before district judge Patrick Lowrey and charged with felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 16, statutory sexual assault-4-8 years older, aggravated indecent assault-person less than 16, interference with the custody of children and corruption of minors-defendant age 18 or above and a misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a person less than 16.

Askins was placed in the Venango County jail after failing to post $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled May 10 in Central Court.
