Franklin man faces charges for fleeing police, having drugs

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing charges for fleeing an officer Friday and having drugs in his possession.

Sugarcreek Borough police said in a criminal complaint that Gary Lee Hawke, 35, was clocked going 88.5 miles per hour in a 45 zone on his motorcycle at about 8:30 a.m. Friday near Knights Inn on Route 8.

Police pursued with lights and sirens, but Hawke didn’t pull over until he arrived at Electralloy, according to the complaint.

Once Hawks was stopped, police took him into custody, searched him, and discovered 4.5 grams of methamphetamine, some marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the complaint said.

Hawke’s license had been suspended and the motorcycle was unregistered, according to the complaint.

Hawke was charged with felony counts of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, three misdemeanor counts of possessing controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, and some summary traffic offenses.

He was arraigned Friday and placed in Venango County jail without bail due to fleeing an officer.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
