Franklin man facing felony charges for ATV theft

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing three felony charges in connection with the theft of an ATV from a garage in Cranberry Township.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint that on May 10, Collin Stone, 25, entered a detached garage on Peach Street and took the ATV.

When police spoke to the ATV owner later that morning, he said his mother told him the ATV was missing from the garage and his first thought was that his friend, Stone, had taken it because he was one of the few people who knew the ATV was there, the complaint said.

The ATV owner went to speak with Stone and ended up talking to Stone’s girlfriend, who told him the four wheeler had been left by the Eighth Street Bridge and the bike trail in Cranberry Township, the complaint said.

The ATV was recovered near the trail and bridge by the man who owned it prior to police being contacted, the complaint said.

The ATV owner provided police with screenshots of messages between him and Stone, and Stone’s girlfriend, where “it is acknowledged by all” that Stone took the ATV, the complaint said.

Stone has been charged with felony counts of burglary-not adapted for overnight accommodation no person present, theft by unlawful taking of movable property and receiving stolen property.

He had not been arraigned in the case as of Wednesday afternoon.
