Harrisville man suffers fatal injury in OC crash

From staff reports

A man was fatally injured in a one-vehicle crash on the Route 8 bypass Monday in Oil City.

Oil City police said Tyler Coast, 34, of Harrisville, was driving north at about 10 p.m. on Route 8 when his 2002 Honda Accord went across the southbound lane and off the roadway.

Police said the vehicle then traveled about 330 feet before striking a utility pole approximately 12 feet in the air near the old Hovis Auto parts store. The vehicle then caught fire, police said.

Police said the Oil City fire department extinguished the fire and extricated Coast from the vehicle.

Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh pronounced Coast dead at the scene, police said. Rugh said he died of blunt-force trauma.

Oil City police Chief Dave Ragon said the road was wet at the time of the crash.

Oil City police, Oil City Fire Department, Rouseville Volunteer Fire Department, Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department and Community Ambulance responded to the scene.
