Jefferson County kicks off America 250 celebrations

Jefferson County leaders and state officials gathered Tuesday to kick off the America 250 celebration, highlighting the county’s deep historical ties dating back to its founding in 1804 during Thomas Jefferson’s presidency. Commissioner Scott North emphasized the region’s pioneer roots and the lasting impact of early settlers and veterans, while America 250 PA Executive Director Cassandra Coleman recognized Jefferson County as an active steward of its history. Coleman announced a $20,000 grant for the Brockway Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration and noted recent projects including a Liberty Tree planting, a Liberty Bell replica and statewide programming planned through 2026. State Rep. Brian Smith encouraged community involvement, calling the anniversary an opportunity to honor the past while inspiring future generations, as officials outlined events designed to engage Pennsylvanians across the state.
