Juneteenth speaker at PennWest Clarion places focus on unity

Sharon native Brandon K. Wiley, who served as keynote speaker during PennWest Clarion’s Juneteenth Jubilee Celebration on Friday, spoke of how he overcame his identity crisis that he had as a biracial child. People’s commonalities, not their differences, are their strengths, he said.

Brandon K. Wiley, CEO of Opened Eyes and mental health therapist, delivered a powerful keynote at PennWest Clarion’s Juneteenth Jubilee, sharing his personal struggles with racial identity and how they inspired his mission to promote healing, unity, and culturally conscious freedom. Drawing on historical figures like Fred Hampton and the Rainbow Coalition, Wiley emphasized building on shared experiences to drive social change. He highlighted the importance of mental wellness, reclaiming identity, and collective care as paths to true liberation. The event also featured music by Pittsburgh educator Calvin Stemley and honored Juneteenth’s history and local celebration legacy.
