Keystone senior trip under scrutiny as board weighs aspects of annual excursion

The Keystone School Board is considering whether to change its long-standing senior class trip to Washington, D.C., citing cost, participation and academic concerns. While the board approved the Class of 2027’s trip to Washington, members discussed surveying future classes, beginning with the Class of 2028, to gauge interest and explore alternatives, as only about half of this year’s seniors attended. Board members raised concerns about the $1,000 cost, student absences during the trip week and limited classroom instruction, while administrators noted fundraising opportunities, varying participation from year to year and potential ways to better align the trip with curriculum.
