The Oil Region Library Association (ORLA) has scheduled three town hall meetings to answer questions and address concerns on the upcoming Venango County ballot referendum.
The referendum question, which will be on the ballot in the Nov. 4 general election, is as follows: “Should the County of Venango support the Oil Region Library Association to operate as a county library by establishing a special library tax at the rate of .25 mills on all taxable real estate within the county ($12.50 per assessed value of $50,000)?”
The referendum was placed on the ballot after a petition was created by the library and signed by over 1,000 voters in an effort to create a stable funding source for the library.
The town hall meetings will be held starting at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m., at the following times and places:
Tue. Oct. 21 — Franklin Public Library
Wed. Oct. 22 — Cooperstown Public Library
Thu. Oct. 23 — Oil City Library
“We want to be as transparent as possible,” said ORLA Director Dan Flaherty.
