Man accused of strangling woman waives hearing

From staff reports

An Oil City man accused of strangling a woman last week at an Oil City residence and then fleeing from police waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

Oil City police said in a criminal complaint Dorian Davis, 28, threw the woman on the bed and strangled her during an argument Friday evening.

After the woman pushed Davis away, he jumped on her back in an attempt to hit her head off the furniture, the complaint said. Police said they noticed visible marks on her neck.

Davis eventually left the residence, and police said they found him driving on the North Side and followed him to a tavern, where they activated their emergency lights.

Davis got out of his vehicle but wouldn’t follow police commands, so the officer pulled out his taser and ordered Davis to the ground, the complaint said. Davis had his phone up and was recording, according to the complaint.

Police said Davis continued to refuse to follow police commands and “kept walking around other vehicles avoiding me (the officer) and being very hostile to this officer,” the complaint said. He took off running out of the tavern parking lot and up Cooper Avenue, according to the complaint.

Police lost Davis when he cut through some back yards, the complaint said, but he was eventually taken into custody.

Davis will face further court proceedings on felony counts of strangulation-applying pressure to the throat or neck and flight to avoid apprehension/trial/punishment, a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary count of harassment.
