Man charged after variety of drugs found in his possession

A Coraopolis man is facing charges for having a variety of drugs in his possession in the parking lot of Spanky’s in Cranberry Township last month.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint they were called to Spanky’s on Feb. 22 for a report of a man and woman passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot.

The man, later identified as John Soltesz, 37, of Coraopolis, was obviously under the influence of drugs, the complaint said.

When police searched him for weapons, they found a six-inch fixed blade knife and a bag with multiple stamp bag bundles wrapped in rubber bands in his hoodie pocket as well as a large sum of cash in another pocket, so they placed him in handcuffs in the back of a patrol car while Community Ambulance Service staff tended to him, the complaint said.

Soltesz also gave police a false name, the complaint said.

Later, when Soltesz was fingerprinted by police, his prints identified him and it was determined he was wanted on a warrant from the state Department of Corrections, according to the complaint.

Soltesz was found to be in possession of about 43 grams of fentanyl, 58 pills of clonazepam, 28 grams of liquid morphine, four tramadol pills, five suboxone strips, five buprenorphine pills and 38 tablets of gabapentin, the complaint said.

He was charged with five felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, a felony count of identity theft, and misdemeanor counts of false identification to law enforcement officer, possession of a controlled substance and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
