A Rimersburg man, Michael Leroy Shaffer, was sentenced in Clarion County court to six months of probation, including four months of house arrest and 75 hours of community service, after pleading guilty to neglect of a care-dependent person in connection with the 2024 death of his mother-in-law, Ruth Lasher. Authorities said Lasher died from medical neglect after being found bedridden and unresponsive with severe wounds, while the judge described the death as preventable and emphasized the seriousness of the case.
