Franklin welcomed a new business just ahead of Christmas with the opening of Hovis Country Florist at 1318 Liberty St., owned by area native Jodi Hovis-Skiba. Open for just over a week, the shop honors the legacy of her grandmother, Thelma Hovis, who operated a florist in Sandy Lake for decades. With a background in graphic design, business management and professional floral work across the country, Hovis-Skiba returned home after her husband’s Air Force retirement to pursue her longtime dream. She said the shop allows her to share her creativity in joyful moments while carrying on her family’s floral tradition.
