No one hurt in Cornplanter fire

Nobody was injured in a back porch fire that broke out at 6 p.m. Monday at 254 Park Ave. in Cornplanter Township. Cornplanter fire chief Ben Schwab said the blaze was an “accidental fire due to smoking,” and that some cardboard boxes and a small portion of the wood of the back porch were aflame when firefighters arrived. The flames were extinguished quickly and damage was minimal, as “there was a fast response time from everybody involved and the homeowner caught it quick,” Schwab said. The scene cleared by about 6:55 p.m., according to Venango County 911. In addition to Cornplanter, firefighters from Seneca, Rouseville, Oil City and Reno responded as well as Community Ambulance Service, 911 said. (By Helen Fielding)
