OC Legion post honors essay winners

Abigail Lander (center) and Samantha Proper (second from right) were the winners of the annual essay contest sponsored by the James M. Henderson Oil City American Legion Post. Proper, who was the high school winner, attends Titusville High School and Venango Technology Center. The theme of her essay was “Why is the 14th Amendment Important in Today’s America.” Lander, the middle school winner, attends St. Stephen School. The theme of her essay was “Do You Think Flag Etiquette Should be Taught in Schools?” The two winners were presented with certificates and a cash prize, and Proper’s essay was forwarded to the Legion district level for further consideration. They read their essays at a post meeting with their parents and teachers also in attendance.
