PennDOT is inviting the public to review and comment on proposed plans to restore the historic bridge carrying Petroleum Center Road over Oil Creek in Oil Creek State Park, which has been closed to motorized vehicles since a deficiency was found in 2022. While it reopened to pedestrians and bicyclists in 2023 after initial strengthening, the upcoming project aims to fully restore the bridge to support at least 15 tons and allow both motorized and non-motorized traffic. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and last 12 to 18 months, with detours and trail closures during that time. Built in 1884 and eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, the bridge is a vital link within the park. Project details and public comment options are available through PennDOT’s District 1 website or by contacting the project manager.
