Route 8 opened temporarily due to Applefest traffic

From staff reports

All lanes of Route 8 between Barkeyville and Franklin are temporarily reopened to traffic.

PennDOT has opened the roadway to allow for extra traffic expected in the area due to Franklin’s Applefest celebration.

Work will continue on the $32.6 million project Monday but is expected to be completed by mid-October.

The southbound and northbound lanes will be closed again Monday, so work can resume on the bridge that carries Route 8 over Georgetown Road in Irwin Township. At that time, a detour will be in place using Georgetown Road and Old Route 8.

The work is the final phase of the two-year project to repair and reconstruct nearly 10 miles of Route 8 from Georgetown Road in Irwin Township to Polk Cutoff Road in Sandycreek Township.
