Sugarcreek Council approves purchase of used truck

Sugarcreek Borough Council members approved the purchase of a used dump truck during the panel’s meeting Wednesday.

One of the borough’s trucks failed to pass inspection, and borough Administrator Joseph Sporer told the council that a 2004 International dump truck is available for $47,000 from East Lackawannock Township through Municibid.

It was noted at the meeting that a new dump truck wouldn’t arrive for 18 to 24 months.

Council agreed to purchase the used truck.

In other business Wednesday, the council talked about the spring clean-up day that will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

Four large dumpsters will be available for residents who have garbage to throw away. A few things such as tires, electronics, paint cans, building materials, and lawn items won’t be accepted.

It was also noted at the meeting that the Rocky Grove community yard sale will be held Saturday, May 14.

In another matter, it was reported the borough has about $750,000 in its reserve account at First United National Bank with .65% interest earnings. Sporer wants to move the percentage of interest earnings up to 1% and move the money to Edward Jones Investments.

Council also voted against putting an audible pedestrian signal at the intersection of Route 8 and Front Street. The panel didn’t think the signal would be used that often.
