Tionesta rings in the season

Five-year-old Michael Konecny, who is from the Pittsburgh area, takes the opportunity to give Santa Claus his Christmas wish list on Saturday in Tionesta. All he wants are rainbow post-it notes.

Santa Claus made an early stop in Tionesta on Saturday for “Christmas in the Village,” delighting kids and adults alike. Most of the town’s specialty shops opened for the celebration, offering everything from candy to T-shirts. A new highlight this year was local artist Andie Surgener of Iron Maiden Welding, who transforms old metal items into whimsical art. Holiday music filled the air as visitors enjoyed a performance by “The Sisters of the Northern Forest,” a group of women from four counties who dance to both traditional and upbeat holiday songs—though they joke there are no high kicks involved. With 14 performances planned across six counties, the dancers brought plenty of cheer before Santa waved goodbye, calling out, “Merry Christmas to all!”
