The virtual self-management class will be offered at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, and will be conducted by the UPMC Northwest respiratory staff.

The class includes learning how lungs work, practical information about breathing medications, successful ways to reduce or stop smoking, methods to lower stress level and reduce anxiety or depression, how to improve eating with COPD, creating a COPD self-management plan and exercise tips that can help someone breathe better.

Registration is required, and people may call (814) 677-1463 or 1 (800) 422-8888 to register.

After registering, an email link will be sent with instructions on how to connect to the class.

Those who want to participate but don’t have access to a computer can dial in and still be a part of the class.

The class is open to family members and caregivers as well.
