Vacant residence in Oil City catches fire

A vacant residence at 69 Grove Ave. that had been used by the Oil City Fire Department for training caught fire Saturday morning, prompting a large emergency response, according to Fire Chief Tim Alex. Crews were dispatched at 7:24 a.m. and found heavy fire showing on all sides of the structure, leading to an aggressive exterior attack before interior operations began. No occupants were inside, though one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to UPMC Northwest for evaluation. The fire was brought under control around 9 a.m., and the cause remains under investigation, with multiple area fire departments and agencies assisting at the scene.
