Wanted man involved in crash; jail discovers illegal substances

From staff reports

Franklin state police said a Franklin man was arrested on a bench warrant after crashing his car and was later found to be in possession of a controlled substance while being booked into the Venango County jail.

The crash occurred as Brandon Miller, 25, was driving south on Whitman Road in Sugarcreek and lost control on the ice-covered road and struck a ditch.

Police said they identified Miller and found he had an active warrant in Mercer County for failure to appear in court. Miller was taken into custody and transported to the Venango County jail.

The criminal complaint said the trooper advised Miller during transport that if he had any illegal substances to let the trooper know.

Miller said he didn’t, according to police.

At the jail, Miller said he had Suboxone and Clonazepan in his shoe, police said.

Police said they found four green tablets and two white tablets in Miller’s shoe and placed him under arrest for contraband.

Miller, who was arraigned before District Judge Matthew Kirtland, was unable to post bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
