Washington’s Trail 1753 will hold free webinar

From staff reports

Washington’s Trail 1753 will host a free, one-hour webinar titled “The Venango Path – Then and Now” at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.

It will be the first in a series of educational interactive programs during 2021 by Washington’s Trail 1753 and multiple partners linking 10 counties in western Pennsylvania.

The webinar’s presenter, Charles E. Williams, is an ecologist and archaeologist with interests in the past and present landscapes of Pennsylvania’s northern Allegheny Plateau and the Appalachian region at large.

Williams will compare the current landscapes with the scenes that young George Washington and his contingent traveled during his 1753-54 journey to oust the French from their forts in what is today known as the French Creek Valley.

Deadline for required pre-registration is Feb. 4. Prior to the deadline, interested people should send their name and email address to leigh@visitbutlercounty.com with “WT 1753” in the subject line.

Registrants will receive an email with the Zoom meeting invitation several days prior to the webinar.
