Woman accused of resisting arrest, having drugs in jail

A transient woman is facing charges for resisting arrest in Franklin and then being found with drugs.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint they responded Thursday afternoon to an apartment on Chestnut Street in Franklin where Sara Steetle, 33, was trying to remove her children from her mother’s care against a custody order.

Steetle was “clearly upset and agitated” when police made contact with her, the complaint said.

The complaint noted that officers believed Steetle may have been under the influence of methamphetamine, though they were unable to make a “definitive determination” due to her emotional state.

Steetle told police she had come to her mother’s apartment and got in an argument with her concerning the custody of Steetle’s daughter, the complaint said.

The complaint noted that while Steetle was talking with police she would answer them by yelling and screaming, though they kept telling her to calm down and lower her voice. When Steetle had been disputing the custody of her daughter with her mother, her mother had called Children and Youth Services who arrived after police, according to the complaint.

Steetle yelled at the CYS delegates when they tried to talk to her and she aggressively moved toward one delegate after he suggested she take an oral drug test, the complaint said.

Due to the potential threat to the CYS personnel, police terminated their contact with Steetle and told her to gather her things to leave the apartment quietly, according to the complaint.

Police also warned Steetle that if her behavior continued she would be charged with disorderly conduct, the complaint noted.

On her way out of the building, Steetle saw her mother who was standing at the far end of a hallway, approached her aggressively and yelled at her, the complaint said.

Police then arrested Steetle, and she resisted officers as they tried to handcuff her, the complaint said.

While searching Steetle’s purse, police found two containers filled with suspected methamphetamine, two used syringes and eight unused syringes, the complaint said.

Steetle was placed in the Venango County jail by court supervision due to other court related matters, the complaint said.

Suspected methamphetamine was located in Steetle’s jacket pocket at the jail after she had been given multiple chances by different jail personnel to say if she had any contraband in her possession, the complaint said.

Steetle was charged with a felony count of contraband/controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts each of possession of a controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct, and a single misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest.
