The Oil City Area School Board approved the retirement of Superintendent Lynda Weller at its Monday meeting and gave final approval to a new elementary reading curriculum following more than a year of review. Weller, who has spent over 30 years in education and eight as superintendent, will retire effective Sept. 8, prompting the board to begin planning for her replacement. The board also approved “Open Court Reading” to replace the district’s current program, with supplemental use of “Heggerty” and “UFLI,” and implementation scheduled for the 2026-27 school year following extensive teacher training. Additional business included approving the 2026-27 Venango Technology Center budget and several personnel appointments across the district.
