PTO fund treasurer arraigned on theft charge

A Franklin woman was arraigned Thursday on a theft charge for allegedly embezzling money from the Central Elementary School PTO fund.

Franklin city police identified the woman as Cynthia L. DeLuca, 56, of 1301 Myrtle St. Police said DeLuca is the treasurer for the PTO fund.

Police said they received a report about DeLuca’s suspected activities and launched an investigation.

DeLuca was charged with a single felony count of theft by unlawful taking of movable property as a result of the investigation.

Police did not indicate in a press release the amount of money involved in the incident.

DeLuca was arraigned before district judge Matthew Kirtland and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
