2 hurt in I-80 accident

Two people were injured in an accident on Interstate 80 after one of the drivers became distracted, according to state police in Franklin.

Jeffrey Zappel, 44, of Harrisville, was traveling east in a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado on I-80 in Clinton Township on Thursday at about 4 p.m., police said.

Melissa Corson, 28, of Reynoldsville, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus, traveling behind Zappel’s vehicle when she became distracted and struck the rear of Zappel’s vehicle, according to police.

Corson was cited for following another vehicle too close.

Both people were transported by ambulance for medical evaluation, according to police. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable.

Clintonville Fire Department and Emlenton Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
