The skies above Clarion County Airport will be buzzing Aug. 29-30 with the return of the Appalachian Mountain Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) event, where unique lightweight aircraft from across the country showcase their ability to take off and land in incredibly short distances. Hosted by Discover Clarion County, the event will feature STOL racing, short field competitions, pilot demonstrations, fly-ins, food trucks, vendors and family-friendly fun. Last year’s event drew 14 experimental planes, and organizers expect more pilots to register as the weekend approaches. Spectators are welcome to bring coolers, camp out and enjoy two days of aviation excitement celebrating the skills and daring of STOL pilots.
