As Oil City football team scores, Toys for Tots wins

From staff reports

An Oil City businessman has an idea for the high school football season that he hopes will score big for Venango County Toys for Tots.

In conjunction with the Oil City School District, Derek Bailey, owner of 257 Buy Sell Trade, plans to donate $1 for each point the Oil City Oilers score over the course of the season.

“I wanted to get into giving back to the community on a larger scale,” said Bailey, who became involved with Toys for Tots this year. “When I realized what they (Toys for Tots) do, I figured that would be a good organization to help out.”

Before contacting Toys for Tots directly, Bailey reached out to Oil City School District Superintendent Pat Gavin.

“He wanted to make sure it was something the district would support,” Gavin said. “We appreciate the support and it’s a good community outreach.”

Bailey said that 257 Buy Sell Trade, at 4317 Route 257, will also be a drop-off point for toy donations and monetary donations during the holiday season.

He said that he will be at all six Oil City home games to collect monetary donations for Toys for Tots.
