Blood drives scheduled as need is urgent

From staff reports

The American Red Cross has an urgent need for blood donors.

In recent weeks, a decline in donations has caused the Red Cross blood supply to shrink nearly 20%.

This drop in donations could lead to a seasonal blood shortage that can negatively impact patient care at hospitals across the country, the Red Cross said.

All who give blood during August will be entered to win gas for a year and will also receive a $10 e-gift card to a merchant of choice. Details are available at www.rcblood.org/fuel.

Participants can donate blood from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at the Cranberry Mall, or from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church, 160 Atlantic Ave., Franklin.

Appointments can be made online at www.redcrossblood.org.
