Nine scouts from Scouting America Clarion Troop 51 earned second place at this year’s “Westward Expansion: Forging the Nation” Klondike Derby at Custaloga Town Scout Reservation, braving freezing temperatures and tough conditions just before a major snowstorm. Hosted by Troops 836 and 55, the event tested scouts through fire building, cooking, sled pulling up a steep incline, and nighttime skill challenges focused on navigation and teamwork, and concluded with a Scoutmaster Run benefiting Cochranton’s food bank.
