Cochranton man facing charges in two incidents

A Cochranton man is facing a number of charges in connection with two recent incidents.

Sugarcreek Borough police said in a criminal complaint that on Jan. 28, Curtis Giles, 23, walked into Rural King on Route 8, took a crossbow valued at $600 and left the store without paying for the bow.

Sugarcreek officers viewed video surveillance footage from Rural King that showed the theft and Giles getting into a vehicle and driving away, the complaint said.

Then a week later on Saturday, Franklin police were dispatched to Crosby’s on North 13th Street for reports of a suspicious male, who they later identified as Giles, according to a criminal complaint filed by Franklin police.

When police arrived at Crosby’s they found that Giles had left the area, the complaint said.

Officers later found Giles in the parking lot of the Franklin VFW where he gave officers a false name and date of birth twice, the complaint said.

Police identified Giles and took him into custody, then he admitted his name was Curtis Giles, according to the complaint.

When police searched Giles, they found a pair of brass knuckles in his pocket and they also found multiple items in his backpack issued in the name of Curtis Giles, including an old drivers license, the complaint said.

Police also found various drug paraphernalia “indicative of drug dealing” as well as a small amount of methamphetamine, the complaint said.

Giles was arraigned and charged with a felony count of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and misdemeanor counts of possession of controlled substances, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, false identification to law enforcement and make repairs/sell/etc. offensive weapon.

He was charged in the Rural King incident with a misdemeanor count of retail theft and two summary driving violations.

He was placed in the Venango County jail with bail denied, and his preliminary hearings in both cases are scheduled Feb. 15 in Central Court.
