Franklin man facing firearms charges

A Franklin man is facing charges for firing a firearm that he is not permitted to have in the direction of a house.

Franklin state police said Michael Wiggins, 47, was walking down Meadville Pike Wednesday evening with a handgun that he fired several times.

A witness said Wiggins fired two rounds into a dead deer laying in a field and two more rounds in the direction of the witness and his parent’s house, the complaint said.

State police eventually located Wiggins on Sugarcreek Drive, the complaint said. Troopers detained him and found he had concealed a 40 caliber handgun under his hooded sweatshirt, according to the complaint.

The complaint noted that Wiggins is a felon who can’t possess a firearm.

Wiggins was charged with felony counts of possession of firearm prohibited and firearms not to be carried without a license and two misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person.

He was placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Central Court.
