Franklin opts to keep historic light pole style

Franklin City Council chose not to support PennDOT’s request to replace the city’s historic-style streetlights at the Liberty Street intersections of 12th and 13th streets with a newer design intended to improve pedestrian safety. City Manager Jim Wetzel explained that the proposed lights would extend over the intersections, but after reviewing images, council members said they strongly preferred the current decorative fixtures, which were replaced just two years ago. Mayor Doug Baker noted that the intersections already appear well-lit, and Deputy Mayor Donna Fletcher said the traditional style is “classic to the city.” Several council members agreed, and the city will recommend that PennDOT keep the existing historic poles.
