Franklin woman dies in Mercer crash

A Franklin woman was fatally injured Tuesday night in a one-vehicle crash on Route 62 in Mercer County.

Kimberly Lawson, 60, of Franklin was driving a Jeep Wrangler east on Franklin Road (Route 62) near Johnston Road at about 7:30 p.m. when the vehicle failed to negotiate a right curve in the road, traveled off the road, and struck a sign and ditch, causing it to go airborne, Mercer State Police said in a press release.

The vehicle then struck a utility pole, causing it to overturn and Lawson and passenger Timothy Smith, 66, of Franklin, to be ejected, the press release said.

Lawson was fatally injured in the crash, and Smith was transported by Superior Ambulance Service to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ohio with serious injuries, the press release said.

In addition to Mercer state police and Superior Ambulance Service, East End Fire Department also responded to the crash.
