Frozen custard business coming to Cranberry

As warming temperatures and sunshine have people thinking of cool treats, an upcoming frozen custard business is getting ready to help fill demand.

Frankie’s Frozen Custard is under construction at 6708 Route 322 near Cranberry Beverage Corp. in Cranberry Township.

Frank Remmick of the Cranberry area, who owns the frozen custard shop with his nephew, Jay Remmick, under their business Remmick Enterprises, said the expected opening date is June 15, Father’s Day weekend.

“It’ll be custard that’s made fresh continuously…in our shop,” said Angela Remmick, Frank’s wife, who will also help run the business.

“It’s a much creamier, smoother consistency. Custard is much denser” than ice cream, Angela said.

In addition to frozen custard, the business will offer treats like banana splits and sundaes, as well as different specials and perhaps a limited food menu.

“There will be a flavor of the week, and we’ll incorporate daily and weekly specials,” Angela said. “We are going to incorporate some shaved ice into the business…We’re looking at providing some hot dogs for food, but looking at mostly custards for now.”

The Remmicks decided to start the business because frozen custard was something new and different to the area, she said.

In addition, “We’ll be a family run business, and we’re looking to provide that family atmosphere.”
