Historical Society book sale begins today

From staff reports

The Venango County Historical Society’s annual Applefest used book sale begins today.

There are three expanded book categories this year — used local books, genealogy research materials and books on Native Americans.

Standard categories include hundreds of fictions, including many of current favorites, children’s books, history, religion, crafts, cookbooks, and more.

One of the books available is an 1,100-page book published in 1894 — “Department of the Interior Census Office, Report on Indians Taxed and Indians Not Taxed in the United States (Except Alaska) at the Eleventh Census: 1890.”

This book has some external damage, but all pages appear to be present. Each state is listed with the census information for the Native Americans, and there are also many photos.

The sale runs today through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Historical Society at 307 S. Park St. in Franklin.
